Next to a skatepark on Warschauerstraße, there’s a wall. A relatively new one—maybe a year and a half old—but already chipped, cracked, and covered in layers of paint. “Can’t expect the city to build one good wall of concrete,” he says, tracing a finger along the uneven surface, a testament to rushed construction. But maybe that’s fitting - this isn’t a wall meant to last. It’s a free canvas, a place where artists come to leave their mark, knowing full well it won’t be there for long. The air is thick with the smell of spray paint, a chemical haze hanging over the chatter of skaters and the rhythmic clatter of boards hitting pavement. Some come here with a plan, others just let the wall guide them. Styles clash, colours blend, messages get half-covered by something new before the paint even dries.
There’s no ownership here. No one defends their spot. What you create in the morning might be gone by nightfall, lost in the constant
churn of the city. And maybe that’s the beauty of it—art that exists only for a moment, just long enough to be seen before it disappears.
